Over the weekend, Andrew Bock, a 6’1’ senior point-guard and an All-CIF performer from Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California decided on Creighton University. After traveling to Omaha, Nebraska with his dad to visit the campus -- Bock concluded that Creighton was the place for him. He will be playing in the Missouri Valley Conference.
After months of elite camps (Iowa State, Cal, and Gongaza) and unofficial visits to Stanford, San Diego State, San Diego and Fresno State, Bock took official visits to San Diego State, University of San Diego and Creighton University.
In addition to Creighton and the previously mentioned institutions, Bock also had interest from Fresno State, St. Mary’s, Boise State, University of Washington, Stanford and a number of others schools .
Bock has made great strides in his overall game since he started playing for IEBP in the 9th grade. Bock is a pure point-guard. He does a tremendous job setting up teammates for open looks and knocking down jump shots. Bock excels in the half court coming off ball-screens and playing unselfishly in the transition game.
Bock went into the summer with name recognition. He quickly proved that he was one of the best point-guards around, leading his team to a 20-6 record over the summer. Bock was named an all-star at the Pump’s West Coast All-Star Camp. He is currently ranked number 9 among the best point-guards on the west coast by scout.com and number 2 on the west coast by espn.com.
When asked, “Why Creighton?” Bock responded by saying that his trip went exceptionally well. He said, “The coaching staff made a strong commitment to me over the summer by attending all my games. In addition, they believe I will help them continue to win conference titles”. The winning tradition is impressive. Creighton has a league record of ten straight seasons of 20 or more wins, not to mention 11 consecutive postseason tournament appearances.
Bock went on to mention that his weekend with the players went well. He had the opportunity to play with the team in open gym. Bock shared that he sees the need for a point guard. With that in mind, he wants the chance to compete for playing time as a freshman.
Bock is a 3.75 student and because academic excellence is important to him, the combination of academics, community support and positive campus life at Creighton appeals to him.
The IEBP family knows that Andrew will do well and we wish him and his family continued success.
Scouting Report: Bock has a very good feel for the game and has excellent court vision. He makes good decisions and is a good passer. He is a deceptive and clever ball-handler who plays with poise and isn’t afraid to take the big shot. He needs to get stronger in order to play with big guards.
