IEBP Mission

At Inland Empire Basketball Program (IEBP) our mission is to promote academic and athletic achievement, while developing character and self-esteem, through a commitment to self-improvement, teamwork, and the establishment of positive and realistic goals.  Over the past 17 years we have successfully fulfilled our mission, independent of any financial assistance from major corporations or sponsors, sending student athletes on to a myriad of post secondary educational institutions and professional careers.

The first graduating class for IEBP took place in 1997, that year four players advanced to four year institutions.  Since that time IEBP has had over 130 student athletes play at different universities across the country.  Of those 130 athletes, eighty percent received their advanced degrees.  IEBP now assists players from grade level three thru college.  IEBP is managed by Mr. Keith Howard and Mr. Julius Patterson who also manage numerous athletic events within the Inland Empire.

Julius and Keith have spent countless hours in gyms across the country mentoring, directing and coaching athletes.  Doing the work they love.  Recent events to IEBP’s credit include:  The 10th Annual IEBP Spring League; The 11th Annual I.E. Fall Showcase Classic; The 8th Annual Best of the Inland All-Star Classic; The Family Reunion Tournament; The Lonnie Carlyle Labor Day Invitational; The “Earn your Stripes” High School Tournament; and various SAT Workshops.

The young men in the IEBP family have accepted many accolades including, All League, All County, All-CIF, All-State, All Conference, Freshman of the Year, and Player of the Year to name a few.  IEBP athletes have participated in numerous NCAA Tournaments, The Final Four and the NCAA Championship Game.  Our program has 35 players currently playing collegiate basketball.  Most notably, IEBP’s Darren Collison was a 1st round draft pick for the New Orleans Hornets in the 2009 NBA Draft and there are 9 other IEBP athletes currently playing professionally in Europe.  Former IEBP Alumni Will Kimble (Pepperdine University), Chis Brazelton (University of Riverside) and Skyler Wilson (Hawaii Pacific University) are now college coaches.

Every year for the past 12 years, with the exception of 2001 and 2007, an IEBP student-athlete was selected San Bernardino County Player of the Year. The IEBP student-athletes named have received this prestigious award!

The body of work of IEBP has been a labor of love starting back in 1993 when Lonnie Carlyle and Eileen Carlyle founded IEBP.  Keith Howard joined IEBP in the fall of 1994 when their sons played in high school.  Keith and Lonnie shared the same vision which started them on this amazing journey together.  Their shared vision included providing the youth in the Inland Empire the opportunity to be recruited in their own back yard without having to go to Los Angeles for exposure to college coaches. Many miles have been traveled but the beauty of their work prevailed.  We have witnessed the results of our labor through the numerous players who have received the training and guidance needed to make good decisions.  Tragically, 4 years ago Lonnie passed away.

His wife Eileen and their son Jaquay Carlyle survive him. Jaquay, who played at The University of California of Davis, now attends law school.

Through community support and parental participation alone, IEBP activities have been funded.   These young men have been afforded the opportunity to play across the country in New Jersey, Atlanta, Portland, Houston, and Las Vegas and throughout California. IEBP provides young men with the life skills needed for success on the court and beyond.  We also mentor and assist their efforts to acquire financial assistance to attend college.  IEBP has been the vanguard and is a pillar in the community providing strong leadership and teaching young men how to be men thru the game of basketball.

Both Keith Howard and Julius Patterson reside in Riverside County both are proud fathers of four children.
